Located in the northeastern part of Zhejiang province, at the side of the East Sea, Ningbo lies in the middle part of China¡¯s total continental coastal lines, in the southeastern corner of the Yangtze-river Delta and on the eastern end of Ning-shao Plain, with a population of 6.07 million, among which 2.034 million is urban population.
Ningbo is blessed with pleasant climate and every season is suitable for traveling. The average temperature of each seasons are: January 4.6¡æ, April 14.9¡æ, July 27.8¡æ and October 16.2¡æ. The average annual precipitation is 1400mm and the precipitation from May to September counts for 60% of the total precipitation. During that season, the precipitation is quite heavy, especially in June (the plum rain season) and September (the typhoon season).
With a long history, Ningbo is the birthplace of the 'Hemudu Culture' dating back 7,000 years. As early as the Tang Dynasty, Ningbo has become the starting point of the ¡°silk road on the sea¡±. Together with Yangzhou and Guangzhou, it was called the three main ¡°Foreign Trading Port¡± in China. In the Song Dynasty, Ningbo, together with Guangzhou and Quanzhou, was listed as the three main ports in foreign trade. After the Opium War, it became one of the ¡°Five Main Trading Ports¡± in china. Today, Ningbo has become the most developed city in Zhejiang Province and one of the 14 cities specifically designated in the state plan (sub-provincial city). As the fourth biggest harbor, Ningbo harbor plays an important part in Shanghai International Shipping Center: it has opened lines with more than 400 harbors in 79 countries and regions in the world.
Ningbo is a beautiful port city, famous for its historical and cultural relics and a tourist destination reputed for many scenic spots. There are many famous scenic spots in Ningbo, such as Xikou scenic spots, Tengtou natural park, Tianyi Pavilion, Songlan Mountain holiday resort, Youngor zoo, Dongqian Lake, five-dragon tan and Tiantong temple.
