Hangzhou is the capital city of East China's
Zhejiang Province. The city is located in the lower reach of the
Qianjiang River and the southern terminus of the famous
Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, with a distance at only 151 kilometers
from Shanghai.
Hangzhou is one of the seven great ancient capitals
in Chinese history, and has the name of Heaven on Earth for it is
home to the West Lake, one of best-known attractions in
China. |

West Lake |

The west lake evolved from a shallow bay through
which the Qiantang River flowed into the East China Sea. It covers
an area of 6.78 square kilometers. The average depth is 2.27 meters.
Three sides of the lake are surrounded by verdant mountains and one
side of it prosperous city. The beauty of the West Lake lies in the
harmonious combination of humanistic and natural scenery. After a
large-scale reconstruction, the current West Lake has recovered the
panorama over 300 years before when it reached the most prosperous
period in history, combining delicacy, elegance and wild natural
interest in harmony. |

| Lingyin Temple |

Built in the first year of Xianhe of
the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Lingyin Temple is the most ancient Buddhist
temple of the West Lake. The Gold-gilded Sakyamuni in the Hall of
Mahavira, which is the main hall, is 24.8 meters in height including
the seat. It is China's largest sitting statue of Buddha at present.
In the center of Arhat Hall is the highest copper hall in the world
with a height of 12.62 meters.

Covering an area of 300 acres, it is a famous
Chinese theme park of Song Culture. There are lots of activities and

silk in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Now it is a walking street

Hefang Street is an epitome of the history and
culture of Hangzhou and reveals that when the Southern Song took
Hangzhou as its capital, there was temporary prosperity in the

drug stores, silk, baked goods, food, curios, calligraphy and
paintings and other noted shops such as Hu Qing Yu Tang, Wanlong Ham
Workshop and Wangxingji Fans. |

| Qiantang River Tide |

Qiantang River Tide is well known in the world for
its high, Changing, billowy and breathtaking waves. Each day, there
are two small tides in the daytime tide and in the evening
respectively. From the first to the fifth and from the sixteenth to
the twentieth of the lunar month, you may see large tides.
Especially, the tides around the eighteenth of August of the lunar
calendar are the largest. Tide of Qiantang River viewing village is
the best place to view "Qiantang River Tide", where China
International Viewing Tide Festival has been held successfully for
several times. |
